Department of Economics and Business

is a merger of three former departments (School of Economics and Management, Department of Business Studies, and Department of Economics) and one center (National Center for Register-Based Research). The merger took place June 1, 2011. The study programs undertaken by the former departments continue under the new department.

The Department of Economics and Business teaches and carries out research into microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, financing and accounting, as well as operational analysis. The department has a strong international focus in its research and degree programmes.

Communication with the business community, political decision-makers and society in general is of crucial importance for the department. The knowledge available at the department is therefore shared with a wide audience at seminars and workshops, and in the Danish media.

In addition, the department focuses to an increasing extent on attracting external funds, so that it will be possible to house centres of excellence and research centres spanning different departments and main academic areas.

The department has the main responsibility for the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree (cand.oecon.) programmes in Economics and the International Master of Science in Quantitative Economics (cand.oecon. – IMSQE).

The department also shares the main responsibility with the Department of Business Administration for the BSc and MSc (cand.merc.), Bachelor’s and Master’s degree (cand.soc.) programmes in Business Administration, the MBA in Business Administration and the Graduate Diploma in Business Administration.

At the Master’s level (cand.merc.), the department is responsible for the cand.merc.aud. degree, the management account and control programme, the finance programme, the logistics/SCM programme, the finance and international business programme, and the international economic consulting programme. Finally, the department shares the main responsibility with the Department of Mathematics at Science and Technology for the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree (cand.scient. oecon.) programmes in Mathematics–Economics.

The department carries out research into accounting, financing, logistics and operational analysis, microeconomics, macroeconomics, business administration, and econometrics.

The department will have 135–140 academic staff and 60–65 PhD students.
